AFRICAN REVOLUTION BAND "Tam Tam" PROFILE
The African Revolution Band was established in May 1999 having Mr. M. Baraka as the Chairman and Mrs. Asha Baraka as Executive Director. Together with the African Stars Band "Twanga Pepeta", the African Revolution Band is under the management of African Stars Entertainment.
African Revolution Band descended as a splinter group from the African Beat Band led by Mafumu Bilali Bombenga, whereby the African Beat Band is also a splinter group of the most popular band "the African Stars Band" - Wana Twanga Pepeta. In other words some of the first musicians who formed the African Revolution Band such as Andy Swebe, The Late Mbaraka Rajabu, Deo Mwanambilimbi and Joseph Kanuti are those who performed with the African Stars Band during the very early days, then under Mafumu Bilali as Band leader. These and others under Oscar Haule crossed from African Beat to form the first phase of The African Revolution Band.
Just after being established in May 1999 and having performed some few concerts at Leaders Club on Sunday Soccer Bonanza under TBL sponsorship, the Band moved to Arusha and based at Hotel 77 as a resident Band.
The popularity of the African Revolution Band started there and they were nicknamed as CHUMVI CHUMVI by the Arusha music fans and they later adopted the name "CHUMVI CHUMVI" as their dancing style. Some of their popular songs by then were Monica, Madia etc.
In January 2000 the Band returned to Dar es Salaam and was performing at Gerezani Railway Club, popularly known as "SINGA SINGA CLUB" and at Sunday Soccer Bonanza at Leaders Club under Tanzania Breweries Ltd sponsorship, whereby the Band got more fans.
In order to explore more fans and improve its financial position the Band under CHUMVI CHUMVI style moved to Bahari Beach Hotel and became as a resident Band as it was during the African Stars Band ere. Due to the current growth and competition in Tanzanian Music, the Management of the African Stars Entertainment which also owns the African Stars Band "Wana Twanga Pepeta" together with Oscar Haule as an Engineer, decided to reinforce the group by employing the young, popular and talented Musician - Muumini Mwijuma.
Muumin became the Band Leader of the rehabilitated Band, who in a short period of time managed to change the Band completely. In order to position the African Revolution Band in a more competitive way, other Tanzanian Musicians who had been playing in Nairobi Kenya were employed. They included Amina Ngaluma - the only Lady singer in the Band, Badi Bakule, Rashidi Mwezingo, Msichoke Kombo and others. Together they made a great change in the Band and as a Band Leader Muumini Mwijuma came up with a new style known as "Tam Tam", which replaced the former "Chumvi Chumvi" style.
The Band's second phase was officially inaugurated on Tuesday 7th August 2001 at New Silent Inn Club, together with their first Album known as "MAISHA KITENDAWILI". The album has six Songs; Tunda Special, Mtumai cha Nduguye, Maisha Kitendawili, Mjomba Njaa, Mapendo, and Shangingi la Karne.
Other Albums produced by The Band are MGUMBA(2002) USIA WA BABA(2003) and DIKODIKO(2005)
